I am planing a social event for a non-profit organization, and we want to do a Poker Tournament with Texas Hold ‘Em (dealer is rotated by everyone).

I am charging each person a $15 entry-fee to cover the foods, chairs and tables rental, and prizes I am giving out. Even for the people who do not wish to play poker but just to social will pay this fee.

We are planning to play three rounds of Texas Hold ‘Em, and there is NO buy-in for any round of the game. Each player will be given the same amount of chips before each round starts, and the winners can accumulate points and receieve non-cash prizes no greater than value $200. Other small prizes will also be given out to non-winners randomly.

We are holding this event at a friend’s garage, so we are capping the maximum participant at 40. We are NOT looking to generate net income but only to break-even.

So, do we need to go through California gambling registration or make it a charity event to make this event legal?

I’m setting up a home poker tournament. So far I have plenty of chips and cards, a table, felt, a timer, dealer, small blind and big blind buttons… what else could I use?

In no-limit, when the blinds go up every 15-20 minutes I find my self going all more then I want to and being way to aggressive at times because are rapidly going up blinds. I find this to be more gambling then playing poker.

How do you play?
Some more info. Most tournaments live or online only give you between 1500 to 3000 chips and blinds starting off at 25/50
Edit: I am not asking you how to play but how do you play with the blind structures like this.
Just to be clear I am asking how do you approach this situation in your own way. Not asking for the best just wondering whatever one else does.

I would like it less than 350$, so I dont need a really really nice one. Maybe to seat 5-7 people? Green felt, maybe spaces for our chips? Any one know a site that sells somewhat cheap poker tables?

Im having a birthday part in 30 days, Im a huge poker player and so are most of my friends, so thats going to be the theme of my party. Anyone have any ideas how to have a fun themed poker party?

As I understand it, clothing is used in place of chips or cash, therefore you could use your winnings as a wager. For example, when you win a hand, the other player removes and item of clothing and you can then put it on, giving you another item to come off before you start exposing anything. Like in regular poker, you add your winnings to your pile and use it in the game.
My boyfriend, on the other hand, thinks you just take off your clothes and leave them off, not give them to the winner. I think he’s just saying this to get me *****. What do you guys think?

I’ve noticed many people have little hard-chips and that they use them to hold down their cards in poker games. I want to get one, but do not know where to find them, or just what they are called. I’ve been looking up poker buttons, but that’s gotten me nowhere. Help?
