888 Poker Review

Welcome to our 888 Poker review. 888 Poker is one of the fastest-growing poker rooms in the world today. The site was one of the pioneers of online poker when it was known by the name Pacific Poker, and was one of the powerhouses in the early days.

Internet phenoms like Green Plastic, Samoleus and BLDSWTTRS made their initial fortunes there,  but there were severe repercussions from the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) legislation in the USA, which saw Pacific withdraw from the US market and lose competitiveness.

  • Worst Players
  • Good VIP Deals
  • Nice Software

Still, 888 Poker managed to fight back by revamping its site as well as its software. The site is operated by Cassava Enterprise, owned by the online gambling giant 888 Group, which has its headquarters in Gibraltar. The site is operated under the license from the Government of Gibraltar. The holding company of the group, 888 Holdings plc, is also listed on the London Stock Exchange. 888 Poker also received the eGaming Review award for the Best Poker Operator in 2011, 2012, & 2013.

All the popular games like Texas Hold’em,Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, seven card stud, and seven card stud Hi/Lo are available on 888. Texas Hold’em is available with a pot limit, fixed limit, and no limit. When it comes to tournaments, 888Poker has a pretty diverse selection.

You have tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $1 all the way up to high roller tournies with a buyin of $200+. There is always lots of traffic on the site, so sit and gos fill pretty quickly.

On Sundays, they have their flagship Sunday Challenge tournament with guaranteed prize money of $100,000. There are other Sunday tournaments with guaranteed prize pools of $10,000 and $5,000. 888 Poker is also the host to many satellites that are qualifiers for tournaments like European Poker Tour and Irish Open., and it seems like half the field at this years World Series of Poker were wearing 888 Poker badges.

888 Poker Software and Graphics

Previously, the software used by 888 Poker was called Pacific Poker and it was absolutely terrible to play on. Recently, however, 888 have put a huge investment into the client and nowadays it is playable, but they certainly could have done better.

The graphics have received a boost and the user interface is also a lot easier to work with but not as crisp as PokerStars who lead the way in terms of software. What players will like the most about the new software is that the lobby is much easier to navigate.

You can multi-table but only to a maximum of 8 tables, which can be tiled or cascaded. The software is available for download for Windows, but Mac and Linux users can play through the browser-based version. Check out our demo of the 888 Poker software below so you can see if you like the look of it before signing up.

Standard of Competition at 888 Poker

One of the key things to consider when choosing a new poker site, in fact probably the most important thing, is the standard of players there. 888 wins hands down here. The fact that 888 Group has a casino site as well which also directs a lot of fishy traffic to the poker room, coupled with the limit on the maximum amount of tables at 8 and the less than perfect software keeping professional players away, makes 888 incredibly soft. In fact, 888 Poker is probably the loosest and fishiest poker room around these days with very juicy cash games and tournaments, even up to the mid- to high-stakes levels.

Banking

There are a lot of banking options available at 888 Poker. You can use your Visa and MasterCard credit cards. E-wallets like Neteller, Moneybookers, and PayPal can also be used. There are several other methods as well, like Bank transfer, ClickandBuy, and Ewire. All of these options can also be used for withdrawal. The site uses the latest SSL and PGP protocols to make sure you transactions are safe.
